Aquatic Research Organisms

Quality   Diversity   Dependability

Aquatic Research Organisms, Inc. (ARO), established in 1985, continues to supply quality test organisms to the environmental industry. Laboratory reared freshwater cultures of Pimephales promelas, Daphnia magna/pulex, Ceriodaphnia dubia, Hyalella azteca, Chironomus dilutus/riparius, and Lumbriculus variegatus are available year round, on demand. For biomedical research ARO provides lab reared Danio rerio and Oryzias latipes. ARO's seacoast location ensures a continuous supply of natural seawater for culturing Menidia beryllina and Americamysis (f.k.a. Mysidopsis) bahia and Leptocheirus plumulosus. Field collected marine organisms such as Ampelisca abdita, Fundulus heteroclitus, Mytilus edulis and Nereis virens are seasonally available.

ARO has responded to the challenge of meeting the needs of our clients by keeping abreast of protocol revisions and new regulations. Recent additions to the ARO product line include; the Neocaridina denticulata (Japanese cherry shrimp), the freshwater annelid Tubifex tubifex and the terrestrial annelids, Enchytraeus albidus (white/pot worm) and Eisenia foetida (red/manure worm). We also recently introduced Folsimia candida, a terrestrial springtail. See the price sheets for a more complete list of available organisms. If you don't see the species required for your study, please contact ARO.
